Alarplasty (Alar Reduction)

THE FACE PLASTIC SURGERY

Creating a Balanced, Refined Nose
by Gently Narrowing the Alar Base

Alarplasty (Alar Reduction)

When the nostrils appear wide or flared,
excess volume is carefully reduced
to create a slimmer nasal width.
With thoughtful consideration of
overall facial proportions, the alar base
is refined, resulting in a well-balanced
appearance from both frontal
and lateral views.

The Most Suitable Surgical
Approach
Is Determined

In a well-balanced nose,
the shape and size of the nostrils
play a critical role.

To achieve a natural and sophisticated look, alarplasty must
be individually tailored based on each patient’s facial shape and nasal anatomy.

  • KEY POINT 01 Customized Design Based on
    Facial Proportions

The width of the alae and degree
of flare are analyzed to determine
    the optimal reduction range that
    complements the entire face.

  • KEY POINT 02 Refinement That Preserves
    Natural Curves

    Rather than excessive reduction,
the natural curvature of the alar
rim and nasal flow are preserved
    to achieve a harmonious,
    refined contour.

  • KEY POINT 03 Refined Appearance
    from All Angles

    The nostrils appear slimmer from
the front, while the side profile
    appears smooth, natural, and
    well-defined.

Alar Reduction
Surgical Techniques

  • CASE 01 Internal Incision

This technique is recommended when the nasal base is wide but skin volume
is limited, or when tip augmentation is also needed.

An incision is made in the thick tissue inside the nostril, the alar base
is reduced, and the shape is refined before suturing.

  • CASE 02 External Incision

    This technique is applied when
excess alar skin causes outward flaring.

Tissue at the outer nostril base
is excised to reduce width, followed
    by careful suturing to create
    a natural contour.

  • CASE 03 Suture (Binding)

This is ideal for patients with a wide
nostril base whose nostrils flare when
    smiling or making facial expressions,
or those who want to minimize scarring.

Sutures are placed along both sides
of the alar base and gently tightened
to narrow and secure the shape.

  • CASE 04 Combination Approach

For cases involving both a wide
nostril base and excess alar skin,
    multiple methods may be combined

    to achieve more effective and
    balanced results.
